Our Take
Barnacle is Navigare Yachting's 2023 Fountaine Pajot Isla 40 at Eden Island Marina, Mahé: 39.1 feet, four cabins, two heads, registered for nine. It packs a lot into a 40-foot cat: air-con, a generator, a watermaker, an electric winch and a cockpit fridge. The catch is the heads. Two toilets for four cabins means a morning queue with a full boat, and nine is optimistic; six to eight lives better. Draft is 1.21 m, handy for getting close to the beaches. Smaller and lighter than the 45-foot cats, it is easier to handle on a mooring or a dock. Take it for a family or two couples who want AC and a watermaker without moving up to a big cat.
Who It Suits
Families or two to three couples (6–8 is right) who want full kit on a compact cat and will share heads.
